One extended journey circling Australia was terminated days after the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned several hours later after the ship staff discovered the woman was missing.

An extensive search operation located her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the incident, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that guests and crew on the vessel were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" banning any additional guests from entering the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Chronology of Events

The ship initially left the coastal city on October 24th, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Travelers on board - who typically pay tens of thousands of dollars to take part in the cruise - were taken there for a daily excursion with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Statement

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the island after an planned tour without my mother".

In her statement, she described her mum as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a member of a walking organization.

"According to scant details we have been provided, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mother's being".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum fell ill on the uphill trek," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to return, alone. Then the boat departed, reportedly without performing a roll call.

Company Reaction

Via official communication, the CEO confirmed that the company was "working closely with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the company was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had extended its complete assistance to the family.

Cruise Industry Practices

The liner accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 staff, according to corporate data. It was specially constructed to access isolated locations of Australia's coastline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry individuals on shore trips.

Events of this nature are rare, and cruise ships have systems to document which passengers are boarding or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard just isn't an option," an authority commented.

Cruise lines take these procedures extremely carefully and have "advanced technology in place to stop such events from taking place," the authority continued.

"This seems to be probably a surprising - and unfortunate - one-off."
