Fans Urge Custody of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are calling for that a man who breached a barricade and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records revealed that he was set to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted event staff at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while others called for online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, securing two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
