A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.

The reason behind the incident has not been established and no one has been arrested have been made, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the site overseeing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.

Surveillance tape reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the scene.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to come forward.

"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," added an official.

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.

"I am in shock. I am shattered," she said.

In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for declared Stock was known for his charisma, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will endure".
