After a decisive victory at the Lusail Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver has significantly reduced the margin in the title race. He now finds himself just twelve points behind leader McLaren's Lando Norris and in front of teammate Oscar Piastri, the scene is set for a nail-biting three-way championship battle at the famous Yas Marina Circuit.

A Victory Crafted by Timing and Execution.

Verstappen's latest win was far from predictable. Although he delivered a flawless drive for his team, the result was heavily influenced by a costly strategic decision from the McLaren team. Deciding to keep their cars out during an initial safety car period, the team effectively gifted the initiative to their rival, who capitalized perfectly.

"I'm excited, I'm ready to go there and give it my best shot," the driver said. "I approach it with just positive energy. I'll push to the limit I can but equally, even without the title, I still know that I had a fantastic season."

This philosophy according to him takes a lot of the weight of expectation. The goal for the last race is straightforward: to get the most from each opportunity from himself and the car.

A Remarkable Comeback Fueled by Upgrades and Teamwork.

The remarkable aspect of Verstappen's late-season charge so impressive is the distance he has come back. Following the Zandvoort round in August, he was a staggering 104 points behind the then-leader his rival and had openly dismissed his title chances.

The reversal began with significant performance updates introduced by his team at the Italian Grand Prix. Modifications to the vehicle's underbody and front wing rectified ongoing balance issues, allowing Verstappen to feel comfortable with the chassis once more.

Following those upgrades, his form has been completely spectacular, racking up a quintet of triumphs and multiple podiums. He made sure to highlight the collective effort behind this success.

"We've won races where maybe the odds were against us, by executing the correct decision as a group," Verstappen added. "The way I work with my race engineer and the entire crew... we are really well integrated."

The Equation for a Unforgettable Decider.

With the paddock arrive in Abu Dhabi, the championship picture is crystal clear.

• The championship leader is in position to win his first-ever world title if he outpaces both Verstappen and Piastri or secures a place on the rostrum.
• The challenger must win and requires that his rival is not in the top three.
• Oscar Piastri, trailing by 16 points, must also win and have his teammate place outside the top five.

The intensity rests heavily on the papaya-colored cars, who have let a big points cushion disappear due to costly errors, including a twin DSQ in Las Vegas. In his view, this position brings a sense of freedom, transforming the last event into a simple chance to go for glory with nothing to lose.
