Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
