The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
